DStv launched their Africa Trending events on 19th  December 2014 at the top luxurious hotel, The Meikles. The event was attended by top media personalities  from traditional and digital media such a Larry Kwirirayi and Sir Nige. Local musicians and former BBA Hot Shot Zimbabwean  housemates attended the newly launched event. Africa Trending aims to connect African media and content producers. The event is not only a networking event but allows for guests to discuss DStv’s latest initiatives and campaigns such as MultiChoices’s Africa Rising campaign.

The first launch event was quite well attended . The launch of Vuzu Amp and Mnet Edge was especially highlighted. It is also noteworthy that Supersport continues to be the largest African media investor in African sports. After touring the Mzansi and Mnet studios back in November 2014 it comes as no surprise that sport is one of the largest funders of continental sport. The event is part of MultiChoice’s Africa Rising campaign designed to inspire  fellow Africans to become involved in community-based social upliftment projects. This campaign is part of DStv’s vision to see this continent at the forefront of innovation and creativity in the entertainment industry.

The event allowed for guests to mingle with DStv management and discuss local and pan-african content more specifically in the context of Southern Africa. I am excited to see more localised content discussions and cannot wait for more #AfricaTrending events. I have thoroughly enjoyed contributing and consuming their This Is Africa Blog. Over the years, M-Net has grown its local content offering to seven quality premium channels including the popular Africa Magic channels. MultiChoice continues to prioritise its investment in promoting local film and television entertainment while collaborating with talented local film makers in creating authentic African stories
