MultiChoice Africa hosted the biggest African content showcase from 1st September to 5th September appropriately named #OnlyTheBest with several international media showcasing their renowned channels like Disney, MTv and Lifetime.  The impressive showcase demanded an appropriate setting and Mauritius certainly lived up to its paradise comparisons. With 6 days dedicate to content hosted at the luxurious, Outrigger Hotel Beach Resort. It was undeniably a lifestyle bloggers dream and with over 1000 pictures taken. These are some of the highlights from the magical week.

Day1: “A Night of a Thousand Stars”

Living up to its billing .The grande welcoming dinner-party was a star-studded event with the who is who of Nollywood including both actors and musicians such as Genevive, Desmond Eliot, Ramsey Nouah and Banky W. The glamorous dinner took  place in a lavish marquee situated next to the blue waters of the Outrigger Beach Resort . The magical setting was every bit of charming from the dazzling chandeliers to the Hollywood-inspired décor. Welcomed by the flashing cameras of the evening’s paparazzi and chilled champagne. It was only the beginning to a night filled with surprises and stars.

Music and dance added to the night of celebration of content and African entertainment as the night was hosted by the handsome Big Brother Africa host, IK and Africa Maguc beauty Eku. Speeches from MultiChoice Africa’s CEO, Tim Jacobs who reiterated the commitment to subscribers on every platform , every device at and shared the brand’s 20 year investment in the continent. Similar sentiments where shared by M-Net Regional Director West Africa, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu who shared the history of proudly African channels part of the M-Net family such as Africa Magic, Maisha Magic and Zambezi Magic.

A definite favourite of the night ,was IK’s Hilites showcase who made the night a little more humorous with his interviews with Bank W and Flavour N’abania where things got  a little heated. Don  Jazzy and co brought the crowd to their feet with some Dorobucci fun which the local Mauritians seemed to enjoy the most. With several staff asking me what Dorobucci means? Much to my embarrassment, I don’t think I truly know what is means?lol.

The glamorous night was certainly filled with the glitz and charm on Africa’s paradise island  my only criticism of the night’s programming was the lack of entertainment from all regional blocs in the continent. While , it is clear Nigeria is a powerhouse and Africans enjoy their entertainment. The growing popularity of East African culture and music as well as the excitement of the hidden Southern African talent made it an unfortunate blunder on the organisers’ part. Flying media from all around Africa only to showcase Nigerian and one Ghanaian act on the opening night was not quite in the interest of African unity. A variety of entertainment would have been welcomed from dance, music to comedy. An attending Nigerian media practioneer commented , “I do not know much about Southern African music..who are your musicians?” . The lack of stage sharing with  fellow Africans is unfortunate. While there was more showcases from around the continent later in the week notably at the Vuzu party and the Night of Magic. It would have been great for a more inclusive showcase on the opening night . It would certainly have been a fantastic addition to the night of a thousand stars. After all, it is time the rest of Africa shares the skies with continents biggest stars

With just one  criticism of the night , it was definitely a spectacular night filled with world –class entertainment The hosts were articulate, the food superb and filled with enthusiasm for the following days of content celebration. Thank you MultiChoice!
