I recently took a trip to the Eastern Highlands for a a little bit of business and leisure and it was such a treat to see the impressive developments in Nyanga and there was one special stop I was most excited about. A few years ago, I shared some cherished moments at the Inn on Rupurara ( see some pictures from 2016 here) and was saddened to hear of its closure a few years back. Naturally, I was thrilled when I learned that the Rupurara property was making a comeback, this time under a new brand positioning and management. Introducing Rupurara Valley Lodge, managed by Cresta Hotels.

While they have made impressive design changes , the improved look and style beautifully maintains the lodge’s Cape Grace style aesthetics and charm with their interior design.

After a chat with their management team, it became clear that their focus extends beyond just the look and feel of the property. The photography artwork adorning the walls, all taken on the property, adds a personal touch and a sense of adventure as you try to discover where each photo was captured. I believe there is even a special prize for guests who successfully identify the locations. Every room features a balcony with breathtaking views, tying everything together and making for a truly delightful retreat. Who wouldn’t want to wake up to the stunning views of Nyanga?
The Pool Area
On hot days in Nyanga, there’s nothing better than cooling off with a cold beverage surrounded by nature. Now, imagine a pool with a backdrop of rockery and mountains. For a moment, I thought I was in Matopos, but the lovely blue waters were a beautiful surprise. I eagerly look forward to the completion of their spa facilities. Nothing beats a relaxing massage followed by a calming swim.

As both a marketer and travel enthusiast, I see several exciting opportunities for Rupurara Valley Lodge. For guests who may not wish to stay overnight, the lodge could offer enticing day packages. Picture indulging in spa treatments, enjoying sundowners on the deck, or indulging in a three-course lunch or a small plate and drink with panoramic views. Although I didn’t get the chance to sample their menu during this visit, I look forward to doing so in the future, and I hope their culinary offerings will be as impressive as their visual appeal. Let’s NURTURE the tastebuds too. Inspired by a visit to Zanzibar, I’m also excited about the potential for wellness weekends at Rupurara, featuring juice bars, meditation spaces, and yoga classes to enhance the lodge’s relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, I recall the property’s earlier days when it was known for its wildlife and stunning sunsets over the rocky mountains. Reintroducing these elements could add a wonderful dimension to the guest experience- something truly unique for Nyanga.
